The collective imagination would tend to think that over the last few years, and even more so since the pandemic, the whole of humanity would be linked digitally: “everyone has moved to digital”. But according to the UN, we are still a long way from that reality. 37% of the global population has never been on the Internet, that is 2.9 billion people. Despite the phenomenon of the “zoomification” of the workplace and schools, acceleration of digital and access to the Internet remain inequitable. In 46 of the least developed countries, three quarters of people still don’t have access. In France, the least connected people are women, the elderly and people living in rural areas. Other factors should also be considered, such as illiteracy, poverty, lack of digital skills, all contributing to the ostracization of this population.
